Wavegarden is the only vendor publishing a headline figure: a turnkey Cove package quoted at around EUR 20 million (roughly $22 million), covering the lagoon, wave system, water treatment, main building, surf school, shop, service buildings, and launch, not just the machine itself.
A Wavegarden Cove generates waves from a central pier of independently controlled electromechanical modules, each driving a submerged panel. Firing the modules in sequence sends a peeling wave down both sides of the pool at once, and the number of modules installed sets both the pool's size and how many waves it can produce per hour, up to roughly 1,000. Because different sections of the pier can run different settings simultaneously, a single Cove can host a beginner bay and an advanced peak in the same session block.
Wavegarden was founded in 2005 by Basque mechanical engineer Josema Odriozola and German sports economist Karin Frisch, who combined their backgrounds to design wave-generating systems for surfing. The company is headquartered in the Basque Country near San Sebastian, Spain, and now employs more than 60 engineers across mechanical, civil, electrical, and fluid-dynamics teams. The Cove is Wavegarden's commercial lagoon system and, by installation count, the most widely adopted wave technology in the world.
