About SurfParkGuide

Every wave pool on the planet, in one place: where to surf, what it costs, and whether it’s actually worth the trip.

Landlocked, but still surfing

My name is Caden Marquis. I was born and raised on the Central Coast of California, where I developed a love for surfing in high school. Too late to become any good, but early enough to catch the bug for life. Most of my early sessions were spent surfing Pismo Beach’s mushy little waves, and I loved every second of it.

I moved to Utah for school in 2019 and have been landlocked ever since, partly because of California’s insane prices and partly because of Utah’s growing tech scene.

These days, I try to fly back to California every couple of months to sneak in a few sessions. But the first time I saw that viral clip from Waco, I had a glimmer of hope that someday I might be able to throw a board in the back of my car after work and enjoy a sunset session without living in my parents basement.

My first wave pool trip was in 2019 to Waco Surf Park, formerly known as BSR Surf Resort, and I was immediately hooked. To be clear, nothing can fully match the feeling of surfing in the ocean. But for the first time since moving inland, I felt like I could actually enjoy the sport I loved again.

I started SurfParkGuide as a side project because I struggled to find one clear, reliable place to keep up with the constant growth of surf parks and wave pools around the world. My goal is to make it easier for surfers, especially landlocked ones, to find where they can surf, what’s open, what’s coming next, and whether each park is actually worth the trip.
