DSRT Surf

DSRT Surf is a surf resort at the Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, California, built around a 5.5-acre, 52-module Wavegarden Cove that can produce up to 1,000 waves an hour. It is the second Wavegarden Cove in the United States. It opened its booking calendar to the public on 24 September 2026 and is in a soft-opening phase, expecting to open fully in November, though the park's own FAQ still gives late summer 2026 as its public opening. Phase one is the lagoon and a leisure pool; a 139-key hotel and 57 villas are planned for a later phase.

The lagoon is split into a left and a right side, with up to 35 people per side according to the park's FAQ; Wavegarden put the capacity at 88 or more surfers in the water. DSRT sells two kinds of session. Bay sessions are the beginner product: Bay and Play and a Learn to Surf lesson. Reef sessions are the performance product, sold by the hour and named for what the wave is set to do, from Easy Longboarding through Progressive Carving and Critical Turns to Pro Barrel Fest, Pro Barrels and Chamber Barrels. Reef sessions run an hour; Bay sessions run an hour or ninety minutes depending on the day. The barrel sessions take smaller groups, 7 to 10 surfers against 12 to 14 on the turns and carving settings.

The range of sessions makes it usable across skill levels: beginners have Bay sessions and a lesson with a board and wetsuit included, intermediates can work on turns in the carving settings, and advanced surfers can book the barrel sessions, which run with smaller groups. People traveling with non-surfers have the leisure pool, pickleball and a skate area on site, and golf at Desert Willow next door.

DSRT runs a single lagoon split into a left and a right side, and sells two kinds of session in it. Bay sessions are the beginner product: Bay and Play is $60 for an hour and Learn to Surf is $100, or $60 on the local rate, covering a 30-minute land lesson and an hour in the water with a soft-top board and wetsuit included. Bay prices were the same on every day checked, and three Bay and Play sessions run a day. Reef sessions are the performance product, sold by the hour, and the lineup was renamed for sessions from 18 October 2026: Malibu Beginner $130 to $140, Malibu Plus $150 to $160 and Malibu Turbo $210 to $240, all tagged Beginner; Advanced Turns $200 to $230; Expert Turns $180 to $210, Expert Barrels $220 to $240 and Turns to Barrel $230 to $250; Pro Turns $190 to $220, Pro Barrels $200 and Air Camp $320. Most cost more at weekends than on weekdays. Either side of the lagoon can be hired privately for $10,000 to $12,500 an hour, on request. Book through the park's online calendar at book.dsrtsurf.com, where each session shows its price and spots left. The park is about 13 miles and 25 minutes from Palm Springs International Airport and a little under two and a half hours from Los Angeles, so a day trip from Southern California is realistic. Plan for heat: early morning sessions are far more comfortable than midday in summer. Book by session name and price, since the skill tags in the booking system do not always match the session.
