HOW IT WORKS

A Citywave installation pumps a continuous sheet of water over a shaped surface at high speed, producing a stationary wave face rather than one that travels across a pool. There is no paddling, no takeoff, and no end section, but the repetition is effectively unlimited, since the wave is always there rather than being generated and reset between rides.

BACKGROUND

Citywave was born from a desire to recreate the Eisbach river wave in Munich, the best-known river surfing spot in the world. Its inventor and CEO is Rainer Klimaschewski, and the company operates as Citywave Verwaltungs GmbH out of Planegg, near Munich. It has installations across Europe and in Japan, Israel and the United States, where its 50-foot-wide wave at Lakeside Surf in Chelan, Washington is its largest yet.
