Standing-wave systems are the cheapest entry point by an order of magnitude: roughly $1.5 to $2.5 million for the system itself, which is why they tend to appear inside larger entertainment complexes rather than as standalone destinations.

HOW IT WORKS

A Citywave installation pumps a continuous sheet of water over a shaped surface at high speed, producing a stationary wave face rather than one that travels across a pool. There is no paddling, no takeoff, and no end section, but the repetition is effectively unlimited, since the wave is always there rather than being generated and reset between rides.

BACKGROUND

Citywave was founded by Rainer and Susi Klimaschewski, German engineers and former professional freestyle skiers, who began developing a standing wave in 2006 after being inspired by the Eisbach, the well-known river wave in their home city of Munich. The company opened its first commercial pool in 2017 and operates as Citywave Verwaltungs GmbH out of Planegg, in the Munich area.
