Wellenwerk Berlin

Wellenwerk runs Berlin's only indoor surf wave, a Citywave standing wave in a converted hall of the old Berlin waterworks in Lichtenberg, open since 2019. The pool measures 10 by 18 metres and the wave can be raised to 1.6 metres. The water is kept at about 27 °C all year, the hall runs on hydroelectric green power, and a bar and restaurant look onto the wave.

A Citywave standing wave whose height and flow speed are adjusted for each level, so first-timers and pros surf the same machine. Beginners start with a hand-hold bar and a coach; Intermediate sessions drop in without the bar with two coaches; Training sessions are for riders who can drop in alone, 60 minutes for up to 12 or an Intensiv 30 minutes for up to 6. Each session ends with a video review of your best waves. At 27 °C no wetsuit is needed, and bodyboards are allowed.

Berliners who want surf time without leaving the city, first-timers who want a coach and a hand-hold bar for their first stand, and parents surfing with children, since the Beginner session takes anyone from age 6 and 30 kg. Friends who are not surfing can watch for free from the hall or the bar.

Beginner and Intermediate sessions are 59.90 euros with softboard, lycra and coaching included. Training sessions for advanced and pro riders are 49.90 euros without equipment: bring a board or rent one on site (softboard 10 euros, hardboard 30). Kids Surf & Splash sessions are 49.90 euros, the three-hour Beginner Surfkurs is 199.90 euros, the Saturday Surf Night is 59.90 euros, and an exclusive session for your group costs 499 to 799 euros. Book ahead for weekends. Your first visit should be a Beginner session or the Surfkurs; most people move to Intermediate by the second or third session. Bring swimwear and a towel. Under-18s can come alone with a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Opening hours are Wednesday to Friday 4pm to 10pm and weekends 8am to 11pm.
