THE VERDICT

The most complete Citywave venue anywhere, and a real surf destination rather than a wave bolted onto another business. If you are in the Rhineland and want to actually improve, this is the one to book.

OVERVIEW

RheinRiff is a 9,000-square-metre indoor surf hall in Düsseldorf built around a nine-metre Citywave standing wave, billed as the largest facility of its kind in the world. It opened as a dedicated surf venue rather than an attraction inside something else, and runs a four-tier progression from complete beginner through advanced.

THE WAVE

The Citywave system pumps a continuous sheet of water over a shaped floor to hold a stationary wave in place, ridden on a real board with fins rather than a bodyboard. The wave is nine metres wide and adjustable across four levels, so the same pool runs a first-timer session and an advanced one on the same day, year-round and weather-independent.

BEST FOR

Rhineland surfers who want structured repetition without driving to a coast, and beginners who want a coached pathway rather than a single novelty session. The four-level structure is the draw: it is built for coming back, not for one visit.

PRICING

Open sessions at Level 2 and 3 start around 39.99 euros, with a Focus session at 59.99 euros. Coached entry courses cost more because they include instruction: Level 1 runs about 89.99 euros and Level 0, for complete beginners, about 119.99 euros. Kids sessions start around 34.99 euros.

PLANNING

Book online ahead, particularly for evenings and weekends. If you have never ridden a standing wave, take the Level 0 or Level 1 course rather than an open session: the drop-in technique is its own skill and an open session assumes you already have it.
