Urbansurf runs an open-air Citywave in Zürich's Gerold quarter, right by Hardbrücke station and hemmed in by rail lines and city buildings, which gives it one of the most striking settings of any standing wave. It is standalone, with its own surf shop, restaurant and membership programme.
The wave runs about 8.2 metres wide and is adjustable between roughly 1.2 and 1.4 metres, ridden on real boards with fins. Citywave describes it as the best stationary deep-water wave it has built. Coaching is included in sessions, and a 4K camera system records rides for review.
Zürich locals with a season membership and travellers who want a properly urban surf session between trains. The free viewing platform, restaurant and bar make it work as an after-work spot for people who are not surfing at all.
An adult session is about CHF 65 for 30 minutes in a group of up to six, with kids at about CHF 49. A group booking for up to eight runs about CHF 390, a 60-minute Full Moon session about CHF 114, and a season membership about CHF 299.
Two minutes from Hardbrücke station, so no car needed. Book well ahead in summer. If you plan to surf more than a few times, the season membership changes the maths considerably.
