irie surf opened in May 2025 in Freiburg im Breisgau, next to the Messe Freiburg tram stop, running an open-air Citywave standing wave. It is standalone and pitches itself as a meeting place for surfers rather than an attraction, with a surf café, rotating food trucks and a contest calendar built around the wave.
A Citywave stationary wave with variable water strength across kids, beginner, intermediate and advanced settings, ridden on real boards with fins. It sits outdoors, so the setting is open-air rather than the indoor-hall feel of RheinRiff or Wellenwerk.
Freiburg and Black Forest locals, and anyone travelling the Rhine corridor who wants a session with a community feel rather than a ticketed attraction. Spectating is free, so it works for groups where only some people surf.
Sessions run about 44 to 55 euros depending on the day and time slot, with multi-cards available from five up to fifty sessions for regulars.
