The Hasewelle is a Citywave standing wave built into the atrium of the L&T Sporthaus department store in central Osnabrück, open since March 2018. Shoppers watch from balcony galleries on the floors above, which makes it the most unusual setting of any wave in this directory. It has hosted international rapid-surfing competitions.
The wave holds a constant 1.5 metres across a 7.5-metre width, driven by six turbines circulating about 400,000 litres in a closed loop. Height is adjustable from beginner through advanced settings.
Northern German surfers wanting reps between North Sea trips, and anyone who finds the idea of surfing inside a department store too good to skip. It suits beginners particularly well given the gear policy below.
Adults from 15 years pay about 49 euros and children 8 to 14 about 39 euros, for a 45-minute slot in a group of up to ten, which works out around eight or nine rides each. Board, wetsuit and helmet are included, and multi-cards are available.
Open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons and Saturday daytime; closed Monday and Wednesday. Book ahead since slots are capped at ten. Everything you need is provided, so you can turn up with nothing.
