HOW IT WORKS

Like Citywave, UNIT is a standing wave: it pumps water over a shaped floor to produce a continuous, stationary wave face rather than one that peels across a pool. The company says its patented hydrodynamics need a smaller footprint and less water than comparable systems, which is why it tends to appear as a secondary feature inside larger lagoons, such as the standing wave built alongside Revel Surf's main lagoon in Arizona and the one planned for Zion Shores in Utah.

BACKGROUND

UNIT Surf Pool was invented in Germany by Johannes Degenhardt and launched there in 2018, then brought to North America in 2020 by Tony Finn and Jessica O'Leary. The system is built to be modular and embeddable, in configurations from roughly 8 to 16 meters wide, which lets it be installed inside a larger lagoon rather than requiring a standalone pool.
