On paper the biggest pneumatic wave basin announced in the country, attached to two private desert clubs and a well-capitalized partner in Meriwether. Six years of approvals without a construction start is the reason to treat the 2028 date carefully.
Thermal Beach Club is a private residential club on 118 acres in Thermal, at the eastern end of California's Coachella Valley. Riverside County supervisors approved it unanimously in October 2020 for 326 homes around a 20-acre lagoon. In January 2026 Meriwether Companies announced a partnership that makes the surf basin an annex amenity for members of its Coral Mountain Desert Club in La Quinta, less than ten minutes away, and confirmed the wave as a 48-caisson Endless Surf system, billed as the largest pneumatic wave basin in the United States. Construction is aimed at summer 2027 with an opening targeted for the fourth quarter of 2028.
The surf pool is a roughly 3.8-acre Endless Surf basin set inside the larger 20-acre recreational lagoon, driven by 48 pneumatic caissons. That is the same configuration size announced for PHX Surf in Arizona and a step up from the 34-caisson pool running at O2 SurfTown in Munich, which remains the reference installation for the technology. Pneumatic systems are the most programmable in the business: wave height, shape, and interval are set in software, so a single pool can run beginner rollers and steeper performance walls in the same session. Worth knowing that the specification has moved twice. The 2020 approvals and early coverage described a PerfectSwell pool from American Wave Machines, a 2023 press release referenced a 60-caisson Endless Surf ES60, and the January 2026 announcement describes 48 chambers. No wave menu, session capacity, or rides-per-hour figure has been published for the current design.
Coachella Valley club members and buyers at Coral Mountain Desert Club, who get the wave as part of a membership rather than as a bookable session. Anyone else visiting the desert to surf should be looking at DSRT Surf in Palm Desert or Palm Springs Surf Club, both of which sell public sessions.
No session pricing exists or is expected. Access runs through Thermal Beach Club membership or Coral Mountain Desert Club membership. Home and membership pricing for Thermal Beach Club has not been published in the sources reviewed; Coral Mountain, its partner club, is selling roughly 300 homesites in La Quinta.
Nothing to book. The two bookable pools in the same valley are DSRT Surf in Palm Desert and Palm Springs Surf Club. Thermal sits about 25 minutes southeast of La Quinta on Highway 86, near the Thermal Club motorsport campus and the Coachella and Stagecoach festival grounds.
