A large private pneumatic surf lagoon tied to two desert clubs, approved years ago and still waiting on construction.
Thermal Beach Club is a private residential club in Thermal, in the eastern Coachella Valley, on land along Avenue 66 east of Tyler Street. Riverside County supervisors unanimously approved it in October 2020 as a $750 million development of 326 homes around a lagoon of about 20 to 22 acres with wave-making technology. In January 2026 Meriwether Companies announced a partnership to make the surf lagoon an annex club amenity for its Coral Mountain Desert Club in La Quinta, less than ten minutes away, with a 48-chamber basin it calls the largest pneumatic wave basin in the U.S. No construction start has been announced.
A pneumatic Endless Surf basin set inside the larger lagoon. Endless Surf's 2023 announcement described a 3.8-acre ES60 with sixty caissons, waves up to seven feet, rides over 30 seconds in Single Peak and ten zones in Split Peak; Meriwether's January 2026 announcement describes 48 chambers. No wave menu or capacity has been published for the current design.

No surf pricing; access is through club membership. In 2020 the project website listed memberships from $175,000 to $1 million, as reported by KESQ.

When does Thermal Beach Club open?
Thermal Beach Club is under development, with opening expected in 2028. The project was approved in 2020 and the design has changed since, from a 60-caisson to a 48-chamber basin, with no construction start announced. Meriwether said in April 2026 that the wave basin is slated for 2028, and the Mercury News repeated 2028 in September. Access is private.
