HOW IT WORKS

SurfLoch is pneumatic, the same broad family as Endless Surf and PerfectSwell: compressed air cycles through large watertight chambers called caissons, displacing water to generate a wave that travels across the pool and breaks against a shaped floor. Unlike Lochtefeld's earlier FlowRider and Wave Loch systems, which use a thin sheet of water and require specialized boards, SurfLoch waves are ridden on a standard surfboard.

BACKGROUND

SurfLoch was founded by Tom Lochtefeld, inventor of the FlowRider, whose earlier company Wave Loch (founded 1991) sold the FlowRider IP to WhiteWater West in 2014. SurfLoch is still run as a family business, with Palm Springs Surf Club in California as its flagship commercial installation and RIF010 in Rotterdam as its second.
