A sensible project in an underserved surf city, with honest sustainability thinking baked in. Until dirt visibly moves, hold the mid-2027 date loosely.
The Break Surf & Stay is a planned 100 million dollar surf resort at Aldinga on the Fleurieu Peninsula, about 40 minutes south of Adelaide. Approved in May 2024, it pairs an Endless Surf lagoon with villas, hospitality, and wellness on a 7.1-hectare tourism-zoned site set back from the coast. It would be South Australia's first surf park.
The Endless Surf lagoon is designed to produce waves up to about 2.1 meters for as many as 70 surfers per hour, using the same pneumatic technology behind O2 SurfTown MUC in Munich. Zoned peaks will separate beginners from experienced surfers. Water is planned to be sourced and reused through managed aquifer recharge, with energy from certified renewables.
Adelaide surfers, eventually. The mid-coast beaches nearby are soft and the good Fleurieu and Victor Harbor waves are fickle, so a consistent machine wave 40 minutes from the city fills a real gap. Nothing is rideable yet, so for now this is one to watch.
No pricing has been announced. Comparable Australian sessions at URBNSURF run roughly AUD 90 to 130 an hour, which is the only realistic reference until The Break publishes rates.
Nothing to book yet. If you are in Adelaide, Aldinga Beach itself is a pleasant longboard wave in the meantime, and the site is an easy drive down Main South Road. Watch thebreak.com.au for construction milestones and founding offers.
