A wave pool resort proposed in Arizona with a public design package, a named architect, and a committed wave vendor behind it. Until construction is confirmed on the ground, it belongs in the pipeline rather than on a travel plan.
PHX Surf is a planned 40-acre surf resort in Maricopa, Arizona, about 50 minutes by car from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, built around a 137,000 square foot Endless Surf lagoon. The design package is public, with AO as architect of record, and the developer announced a March 2026 groundbreaking on the site at State Route 238 and Loma Road. On 21 April 2026 the Maricopa City Council approved a realignment of the site and an amended lease that cut PHX Surf's city-owned parcel from about 12 acres to about 4.19. A Gilbert Sun News article in August 2026 said PHX Surf 'reportedly broke ground earlier this year' without saying who had reported it.
The lagoon is an Endless Surf ES48, the pneumatic system introduced at O2 SurfTown in Munich, in the same 'sunglasses' shape: 137,000 square feet of water, a little over three acres. Its two bays are designed to run different skill levels at the same time, which suits the planned Surf Academy. Endless Surf programs waves section by section, with core wave types for beginner to advanced. No wave menu, session capacity or ride count has been published for this site.
Greater Phoenix, which has no coastline. The resort program, with a spa, wellness centre, restaurants and about 100 bungalows, is aimed at destination stays and group travel as much as at surfers. Nothing is bookable yet.

When does PHX Surf open?
No opening date has been announced for PHX Surf, which is under development. This is still a design-stage project. The March 2026 groundbreaking was announced in December 2025; in August 2026 the Gilbert Sun News said PHX Surf 'reportedly broke ground earlier this year' without naming a source, and no other report confirms it. An earlier target of December 2024 also passed without a start. The project has changed shape substantially along the way, beginning life around 2021 as a roughly $100 million waterpark with slides and a lazy river across 71 acres before being reworked into a single-lagoon wellness resort. Water use will be a live question in a desert market, and the water park, event venue, pump track, and RV district are all phase two rather than opening-day features.
