The most delayed wave pool in California is finally moving. Real progress, big unknowns, keep expectations on a leash.
Ocean Kamp is a 92-acre resort development rising on the old Valley Drive-In site in Oceanside, California, three miles from the ocean. After four years of lawsuits, archaeological finds, and delays, sitework is finally underway in 2026, with the developers aiming to open before the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The centerpiece is a 3.5-acre, roughly 45 million dollar surf lagoon.
Not yet locked: the developer has said the lagoon is leaning pneumatic, the family that includes SurfLoch, Endless Surf, and PerfectSwell, but no technology contract has been announced. Judging the wave itself is premature.
Eventually, North County San Diego surfers wanting guaranteed waves minutes from real ones, plus traveling surfers using Oceanside as a base. A pool three miles from a genuine beach-break town is a bold bet that consistency beats proximity.
No pricing exists; the wave technology is not even final. Palm Springs Surf Club and DSRT Surf will be the regional reference points.
Surf Oceanside's actual waves in the meantime; the harbor jetties and pier are steps from town. Watch for the technology announcement, which will say a lot about the wave's ambition.
