Crest Surf Clubs

Crest Surf Clubs is building its first private members' surf club, Crest New York, at 86 Precision Drive in Shirley on Long Island, in an industrial park off William Floyd Parkway. It was founded by Brett Portera and his father Chris Portera. The project broke ground in 2023 against a 2024 target. In mid-2025 Crest said the site was fully entitled and permitted with excavation complete, that more than half of its memberships were reserved, and that it had engaged Wedbush Securities for a capital raise of about 45 million dollars. In January 2026 Crest announced financing partnerships with Kreation Capital and Sea Purity Investments and appointed Matt Hayden as director of capital markets, describing the project as entering a critical phase of financing and execution. In June 2026 chief executive Brett Portera told Moneywise that the capital raise was in its final stages, excavation was complete and concrete would be poured later that summer, and that Crest planned to open about a year later. It had sold roughly 60 percent of its memberships, which are capped at 500.

A 1.2-acre pool using Crest's own pneumatic wave system, Premier Surf Systems, designed with CTO Alexandre Poirot, a fluid mechanics engineer formerly at Kelly Slater Wave Company who worked on the Surf Ranch. Crest says the system will produce 120-plus customizable waves an hour with rides of 75 yards or more, and waves from one-foot peelers to seven-foot wedges, with lineups of 10 to 20 people and temperature-controlled water for year-round surfing.

Members only. Crest describes a club for surfers and their families, with coaching, a gym and a clubhouse, and a cap of 500 founding New York members.

No sessions are sold. Front Office Sports reported average initiation fees of about 100,000 dollars and annual dues averaging about 20,000 dollars. In June 2026 Moneywise reported current memberships at roughly a 50,000 dollar initiation fee plus about 1,500 dollars a month, with founding members having paid less.

Nothing to book. The site is about 63 miles from Manhattan (about 1 hour 30 minutes by car without traffic), about 30 minutes from Long Island MacArthur Airport and about 1 hour 20 minutes from JFK.
