THE VERDICT

Crest New York is an interesting concept on paper, a private country-club surf experience with credible wave engineering behind it, but it is not open, not affordable to most surfers, and running significantly behind its original timeline. Worth watching if you are in the market for luxury surf membership; not worth booking a trip for anyone else yet.

OVERVIEW

Crest Surf Clubs is a private membership surf club under construction in Shirley, New York, on Long Island, less than an hour from Manhattan. The flagship location, branded as Crest New York, has been in development since at least 2016 under the earlier name Long Island Surf Park. As of mid-2026, excavation is complete and concrete pours are getting underway, with the club still raising capital and the opening now expected in 2027.

THE WAVE

The wave system is built around a proprietary pneumatic design developed by CTO Alexandre Poirot, a fluid mechanics engineer who previously worked on wave-generation technology at Kelly Slater Wave Co., including contributions to Surf Ranch and Surf Abu Dhabi. Crest calls the system 'Premier Surf Systems.' According to Crest's own materials and confirmed press releases, the pool is 1.2 acres, generates 120-plus customizable waves per hour, and is designed to produce waves ranging from 1-foot peelers up to approximately 6.5 to 7 foot wedges. Up to 20 surfers can be in the water per session, and the system is marketed as capable of delivering different wave 'playlists' to individual surfers in the same session. The pool is indoors and climate-controlled, so surfing is available year-round regardless of New York weather. The wave tech uses Computational Fluid Dynamics modeling in its design process, the same validated methodology used in the original Kelly Slater Surf Ranch development in 2015. Because the facility is not yet open, no independent rider reports exist to verify how the waves actually feel or compare to competing systems.

BEST FOR

In theory, the configurable wave range from 1-foot peelers to 6.5-plus-foot wedges means the pool is designed to accommodate all skill levels. In practice, access requires a founding membership costing approximately $35,000 to $100,000 or more as an initiation fee, plus an annual fee of around $20,000. The realistic user is an experienced surfer with a country-club budget, not someone shopping for a beginner lesson or a walk-in session. The membership cap is set at 500, and Crest reports that over half of those spots were reserved as of mid-2025. There is no publicly confirmed day-pass or guest-rate structure.

PRICING

Crest operates entirely on a private membership model, not a pay-per-session structure. There is no publicly confirmed walk-in or day rate. According to WavePoolMag (July 2025), the founding membership initiation cost is approximately $100,000. Crest's own investment materials list a range of $35,000 to $120,000-plus for the right to a membership, with those funds held in escrow until the pool is built and transferable on resignation. Annual dues are approximately $20,000. Some outlets including Surfer and Adventure Sports Network have cited a $50,000 starting figure, which may reflect a different membership tier or updated pricing. The total project has been described as a $35M, $45M, and $60M build in different sources at different times, suggesting the budget has evolved. There are no confirmed add-on session fees because all access is bundled into membership. This is one of the most expensive surf-access models publicly announced anywhere.

PLANNING

Crest New York is located at 86 Precision Drive in Shirley, NY, inside an industrial complex off William Floyd Parkway, close to the Long Island Expressway. The site sits between Fire Island and the Hamptons. For anyone tracking this project, monitoring WavePoolMag and Surf Park Central will give the most reliable construction updates. If you are a serious prospective member, the investment portal at invest.crestsurfclubs.com has detailed terms. Founding membership funds are held in escrow and are described as transferable if you resign, which provides some protection. Do not make travel plans around a specific opening date until Crest publicly announces one with construction complete.
