Gemswell Surf Madrid is targeting a spring 2027 opening. In July 2026 the Spanish outlet El Debate reported the works 40 percent complete, with the main building's structure finished and the lagoon floor about to be shaped, the step that decides what waves the pool can make.
No exact date or prices have been announced.
How the date got here
The builder, SANJOSE Constructora, set out a schedule in July 2025 that aimed to finish in the last quarter of 2026. Gemswell's own site then moved to 2027, and El Debate's July report put it at spring 2027. In March 2026 the project closed about 60 million euros of financing, including a syndicated loan shared by Banco Santander and BBVA.
What is being built
The lagoon is a Wavegarden of 23,000 square metres, which the promoters call the largest in Europe, with a maximum depth of 2.85 metres. SANJOSE says it will offer more than 20 wave types up to two metres high, with up to 120 people surfing in 60-minute sessions. The module count has not been published.
It is promoted by Stoneweg InfraSports, a joint venture of Stoneweg and Teras Capital, with Atlético de Madrid, and sits inside the club's planned Sports City beside the Metropolitano stadium in the San Blas-Canillejas district.
Getting there
This is an urban surf park, on the metro: line 7 to Estadio Metropolitano. Gemswell says the site is 15 minutes from central Madrid and 10 from Barajas airport, and the promoters plan 3,000 parking spaces with more than 400 EV chargers. Madrid is far inland, so for most of the city the alternative is a drive to Spain's northern Atlantic coast.
