Surf Lakes Capricorn Coast

Surf Lakes Capricorn Coast is a planned commercial Surf Lakes resort at 1662 Yeppoon Road, Mulara, between Rockhampton and Yeppoon in Queensland, on the site of the company's research and development prototype. Livingstone Shire Council granted development approval in January 2022. The approved plan includes up to 250 bedrooms, up to 100 camping and caravan sites, retail, food and beverage, a skate park and a scuba pool. Surf Lakes says it owns the approved site and is raising capital to fund construction; it will give a timeline once construction begins.

Surf Lakes uses a central plunger in a circular lake that sends swells outward to break over shaped reefs, so one cycle produces several waves at once for different levels. For this site the company describes an upgraded machine with wave faces up to 2.6 metres and rides up to 15 seconds, a reinforced concrete lake bed with CFD-modelled bathymetry, and a quieter machine able to run on renewable electricity.

Nobody yet: there is nothing to book and no construction under way. If built, the layout is designed to serve every level at once, and the on-site accommodation would make it a destination. The site is about 406 miles by road from Brisbane.
