An approved Surf Lakes park for the Tampa Bay area, built on a wave technology no other US park uses. Construction and the commercial debut of the tech are still ahead.
Peak Surf Park is a planned Surf Lakes park on a 35-acre site inside Two Rivers, a master-planned community in Wesley Chapel, north of Tampa in Pasco County, Florida. Developer Tony Miller signed a deal for the site in 2024, targeting a 2027 opening at the time. On 9 September 2026 Pasco County commissioners voted 3-0 to approve the comprehensive plan amendment and rezoning for the Two Rivers expansion that includes the surf park, with Miller's binding concept plans for the lagoon, beach, restaurants, retail and hotel uses made conditions of approval. More permitting remains before construction.
Surf Lakes uses a central plunger in a circular lake that sends swells outward to break over shaped reefs, so several waves break at once for different levels. Surf Lakes says it can produce more than 2,000 rides an hour over eight separate breaks, for five ability levels from beginner whitewater to an expert barrel and a pro slab. The technology has run at the company's Yeppoon lake in Queensland; Peak would be one of its first commercial parks.
The Tampa Bay area, which has a large population and warm water but no consistent surf. Plans include a half-mile beach, concert and event venues, bars, restaurants, shopping and an adventure park, so it is aimed at families as well as surfers.

When does Peak Surf Park open?
Peak Surf Park is under development, with opening expected late 2027. County approval clears the land-use framework, but construction has not started and further permitting remains. The developer's target is late 2027: as of October 2026 a page on Peak's website still gives it, and Tampa Bay Business and Wealth reported in September 2025 that the park aimed to open in 2027. Surf Lakes has no operating commercial park yet, so the wave is unproven at a paying venue.
