Surf London, the planned surf lake at Lee Valley Leisure Complex in Edmonton, north London, is targeting 2028. In its February 2026 update the developer said the project had been approved by the Greater London Authority and that full planning permission had been granted. No construction start has been announced yet, and no exact date or prices have been set.
Where it stands
Enfield Council's planning committee approved the project on 16 September 2025, subject to a referral to the Greater London Authority, which was required because the site is Green Belt, and a Section 106 agreement. By February 2026 the GLA had approved it and the grant of planning permission had been issued, and the project had also received the permit it needs from the Environment Agency. The team says it is now completing detailed design, tender and fundraising, and finalising the lease with the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority. The developer, Crest Experiences, previously led the project as The Wave London under The Wave Group Ltd, which has since been renamed.
Why 2028
The same update says the milestones keep the team on track to open in 2028. The project's older FAQ, written before the planning decision, still gives 2027, so the February 2026 update is the more recent statement.
The plan
It is a £60 million development on 56 acres of a roughly 100-acre site, built around an Endless Surf ES48 lagoon on a 200-metre-wide lake. The Lee Valley Regional Park Authority says it will produce up to 1,000 waves an hour, from 50 cm to almost 2 metres, for everyone from first-timers to surfers training for the Olympics. The parkland will be free to visit, while the lakeside and the activities south of the lake will need an admission fee. No surf prices have been published.

The site is in Edmonton, beside Lee Valley Athletics Centre, about 40 minutes by car from central London.
