URBNSURF Melbourne, Australia's first surf park, opened in January 2020; URBNSURF Sydney followed in May 2024. The same company runs both, on Wavegarden Cove lagoons with the same session menu, so the wave you book is the same at either. The differences are price, location and what surrounds the lagoon.
The same wave menu
Both parks split the lagoon into The Point, for hour-long sessions on named settings, and The Bays, a shallow whitewater zone for lessons and practice. Point settings run from Cruiser, a gentle waist-high wave, through Progressive, Intermediate and Advanced settings to Expert, a full hour of the biggest barrels. Every surfer gets 10 to 12 waves a Point session at both parks, and Flowstate cameras film every wave.
Price
All in AUD, read from URBNSURF's price comparison in September 2026:
- Point sessions, Cruiser to Advanced: Melbourne $109 Monday to Thursday and $114 Friday to Sunday; Sydney $114 and $119. Both rise by $5 in the peak season from 15 December to 26 January.
- Expert sessions: Melbourne $149 any day; Sydney $159 to $164.
- Beginners: Surf in The Bays is $39 to $45 and the 90-minute Learn to Surf lesson $109 to $124 at both, with board and wetsuit included in the lesson.
- Hire: Point sessions do not include gear at either park; boards start at $15 and wetsuits at $19.
- Memberships: Melbourne from $165 a month; Sydney from $185.
Location and facilities
Melbourne is at 309 Melrose Drive, about 5 minutes from Melbourne Airport and about 20 minutes from the CBD, with free parking beside the entrance. Three Blue Ducks runs the restaurant.
Sydney is at Sydney Olympic Park, about 25 minutes from Sydney Airport. It adds a leisure pool alongside the lagoon, with the RAFI restaurant and the casual Sandy's. Parking is paid after the first two hours for ticket holders registered on the PayStay app.
Which to choose
For most people it is simply whichever city you are in. If you are choosing between them for a trip, Melbourne is slightly cheaper and easy to reach straight from a flight, while Sydney has more for non-surfers to do on site. A session at one prepares you for the other, since the settings and names match.
Good to Know
